By Todd Fratzel on Plumbing. Recently a good friend of mine asked me what might be causing his laundry room to have a sewer smell. Obviously this was a serious problem that needed to be corrected immediately. Not only are sewer gasses an unpleasant experience but they can be a safety concern. If you smell sewer gasses in your home you should try and diagnose the problem sooner than later. I started quizzing my friend about any recent changes in their home that might have contributed to the sewer smell.
OK, so apparently I'm either domestically challenged or people just don't realize how important this is. I've seen the washer cleaning tip link on Pinterest and thought, OK maybe that's a good thing to do just to keep it smelling fresh Nope, it's not just something clean freaks do, it's something everyone who owns a washer should do. Anyway, I'm getting to the point I promise I noticed that our washer kinda has a odor. It's not too bad, I just thought it was the smell of the metal, it's been like that since I moved in. But lately, I can smell it on the clothes after the wash. So I figured it's time for the bleach or vinegar trick.
How did I not ever know about this? No one ever told me. I mean there is soap with each load right? I am sure you all know what I am talking about. When I go to do another load of wash I discover that rancid mildewy smell that takes your breath away. So I would just re-wash the clothes and move on.
