Love and Other Drugs was released almost a month ago in the United States, leaving the rest of us with quite a wait. Love and Other Drugs tells the story of Jamie Randall, a pharmaceutical rep for Pfizer in who ends up selling a drug suited to his special talents — Viagra. At the beginning of the film we see him learn his skills egged on by his brother Josh Gad and manager Oliver Platt. Doctors and receptionists are his prey. Randall just has to discover what they want. Not at once.
Her performance is award worthy. She and Gyllenhaal have a galvanizing chemistry that anchors the narrative incongruities. James Randall classically bland George Segal and his wife the late Jill Clayburgh in a brief but strong role. Jamie is smart enough to be a doctor, but has neither the desire nor discipline for it. Besides he is a hot guy, who can sleep with any woman he desires. Leveraging his strengths he becomes a pharmaceuticals rep, working for Pfizer.

They are sometimes together, sometimes not, on that day. A guy and girl try to keep their relationship strictly physical, but it's not long before they learn that they want something more. A smart but sensible new graduate lands a job as an assistant to Miranda Priestly, the demanding editor-in-chief of a high fashion magazine.
He hits on women and beds them compulsively, which gets him fired from his job. His brother gets him a job as a sales representative for Pfizer, an up-and-coming big pharmaceutical company in the s. Jamie is certainly good at selling himself to the ladies in the world, it would seem only logical that he could sell the idea of new medicines to doctors. However, he is given Zoloft to sell Doctors turn him down left and right, and at one point, he is even beaten up by the sales rep for Prozac, who essentially tells him to stay out of their territory. One day, after constant harassment of a particular doctor, he is allowed to sit in on an examination of Maggie, a young woman with the early stages of Parkinson's. Jamie, naturally, goes to bed with Maggie, and they begin having casual sex.
In , Jamie Randall is fired from a Pittsburgh electronics store for having sex with his manager's girlfriend. His wealthy brother Josh announces at the dinner table at their parents' house that he has found Jamie a job as a pharmaceutical sales representative. After attending a Pfizer training program where he has sex with the instructor, Jamie goes to work for the company and tries to get doctors to prescribe Zoloft and Zithromax. He is rebuffed, much to the dismay of his regional manager, Bruce, who sees Jamie as his ticket to the "big leagues" of Chicago. Bruce says if Jamie can get Dr. Stan Knight to prescribe Zoloft instead of Prozac , other doctors will follow his lead. Jamie tries to get access to Knight by hitting on his female employees until, exasperated, Knight unethically permits him to observe him at work, during which time he accidentally sees a disrobing patient, Maggie Murdock, who suffers from early onset Parkinson's disease.
