In the days after the death of Lesandro Guzman-Feliz, 15, neighbors boycotted the shop and forced it to close, complaining that the owner had not done enough to shield the boy from the machete-wielding gang. Family, friends and neighbors of the slain teenager flooded the sidewalks outside of what used to be the Cruz and Chiky Grocery with candles, balloons and flowers. The owner gave a tearful apology in a television interview. But now the store has been sold, the police said, and the new owners plan to reopen it.
