In this video we introduce the algebraic procedure of completing the square in order to find the turning point of a quadratic function. Clip makes it super easy to turn any public video into a formative assessment activity in your classroom. Add multiple choice quizzes, questions and browse hundreds of approved, video lesson ideas for Clip. Make YouTube one of your teaching aids - Works perfectly with lesson micro-teaching plans. With four apps, each designed around existing classroom activities, Spiral gives you the power to do formative assessment with anything you teach. Carry out a quickfire formative assessment to see what the whole class is thinking. Team Up.

Today is the last day of class. Thursday's HW was to check your work against the posted answer keys. Try to get that done so you are prepared with questions. We will focus on June Regents exam. Get some of it done.

Students continue their study of quadratic equations, learning new strategies to determine the vertex and roots of quadratic equations and applying these in various real-world contexts. In Unit 8, Quadratic Equations and Applications, students continue their study of quadratic equations from Unit 7. They learn the three common forms of a quadratic equation—standard form, intercept form, and vertex form—and understand how to use these forms efficiently based on the situation at hand. Students also learn new strategies to determine the vertex and the roots of a quadratic equation and then apply these strategies in various real-world contexts. In Topic A, students are introduced to the vertex form of a quadratic equation. They use their factoring skills from Unit 7 to determine the process of completing the square.

In order to assist schools and districts with the implementation of the Common Core, NYSED has provided curricular modules and units in P ELA and math that can be adopted or adapted for local purposes. We will review all feedback as we continue to make improvements to the materials. The optional curricular materials on EngageNY are designed to be adopted or adapted. Educators will find both PDF and Word versions available for their use. Lessons are adaptable and allow for teacher preference and flexibility so that what is happening in the classroom can both meet students' needs and be in service to the shifts and the standards. Also, please note that the Math modules include a significant number of problem sets so that students have ample opportunity to practice and apply their knowledge.
