Maddie Kate Siegel is a deaf-mute writer, living in a secluded home. Mercedes on a dresser. We hear eggs cracking, onions being sliced, asparagus sizzling on the stove—and then the sound falls away as we close in on her face. After Sarah leaves, Maddie goes back to cooking. We see a screaming Sarah run toward her kitchen door, pounding on it for help, but Maddie is completely unaware, even as a crossbow-wielding maniac John Gallagher Jr. He even knocks on the door. The masked killer becomes fascinated with Maddie, and decides he wants to prolong her fate and play games with her.

Or do I grab my man, hide behind him and attempt to watch whilst silencing my squeals with a pillow to prevent waking up our children…? Seeing as the movie was centered around a killer who had targeted a deaf lady for fun, this is in no way a film review. I find mindless violence disturbing and would never choose a film of this genre to watch, let alone rate.

There have been countless times where my husband arrived home to find a grotesque scene unfolding on the television as I calmly cross-stitched on the couch. I am rarely surprised, impressed, or affected by horror movies. Hush had my heart thudding in my chest, my palms sweaty, and my body rigid with tension. I was genuinely unsure of what was going to happen and how things would end.
